
Can you build bigger stronger muscles by lifting light weights?
Some of the old-school strength enthusiasts, like Eugene Sandow, certainly thought so. And many modern-day strength coaches will employ techniques like Myo-reps to build muscle in new athletes.
But it’s not the weight that’s important, it’s why you’re lifting it that matters most. Because fundamentally, it’s not the weight you lift that makes you bigger and stronger. Instead, it’s the tension you generate within your muscles that’s important. And sometimes you can create more tension in a muscle with a lighter weight.
