I came across this the other day and just had to share it with you:
I love finding these quotes from famous and successful people who essentially spell out the formula for Fitness Independence. This one is particular is especially powerful.
It’s that second line- “The man who grasps principles can select his own methods” that I like best. In it Emerson is practically saying that if you follow the principles (i.e.. root knowledge, root causes ect.) you can do what you like and still achieve success.
This is so much more refreshing from those who claim that it’s either their way or the highway. The truth is there are hardly any diet and exercise rules you have to follow. You have a ton of freedom to do whatever you like when it comes to diet and exercise. As long as you stick to the basic principles (which are not exclusive to any single diet or exercise program) you’ll be able to have you cake and eat it too.
I also like the last line about having trouble while ignoring principles. As I’ve long said about fitness, the root causes are the single most important thing towards your success. You can do anything and everything, but without that root you’ll just spin your wheels.
This is why fitness success and lifestyle freedom are not an opposition. You don’t have to give up one to achieve the other. If anything, focusing on the root causes of fitness allows you to have both greater lifestyle freedom and fitness success.
