There are many reasons to workout, but there is one reason that’s got to be one of the worst by far.
A few years ago I came to the realization that progress is best made when focused on a positive and progressive ideal rather than avoiding negative consequences.
If you want to be strong don’t fight weakness, focus on strength. If you want to be healthy don’t fight illness, embrace health. By focusing on the things you want, the things you don’t want will simply be pushed out of your life.
The worst reason to take up exercise and fitness is too try or remedy something that you don’t like about yourself. At the same time, it’s very difficult and frustrating to hit the gym as a way to punish yourself for r the habits you’ve taken over the past few days. Few things are more laborious then working out with the intention to make up for your actions over the past 24 hours.
Under this mindset, the best you can do is break even. It’s not very fun or exciting to put in a lot of effort just to get back to square one. Instead, I propose the mindset of always exercising while embracing the positive aspects of exercise for the sake of bringing up your energy level and to feel alive rather than to feel like you’re burning off too much sugar. Working out should never be a way to play catch up with your ideals. It should instead be a way to further create more of those positive aspects into your life.
Don’ t run from the negative consequences you don’t want. Run towards and embrace the positive results you do want!
