All forms of strength training are great for both building muscle and growing strength, Despite the similarities between the two goals, building muscle and improving strength (or any other aspect of performance) actually require different training methods.
In this week’s podcast, I discuss some of the major differences between building muscle vs building strength as per Coach Paul Wades advice from his book C-Mass.
In his book Coach, Wade discusses how training for strength and performance is different from packing on mass. (Check out my review of C-Mass here) More specifically he explains how the two objectives are different in terms of adaptation, method, effort, number of reps, number of sets, frequency and psychology. While training for performance is very similar to training to build muscle, there are some ways they are completely opposite of each other.
